CleanLinks does not collect, store, transmit, or share any user data. Period.
Overview
CleanLinks is a Chrome browser extension that removes tracking parameters from URLs as you browse. It is designed with privacy as its core principle. This privacy policy explains what data the extension does and does not access.
Data We Do NOT Collect
CleanLinks does not collect or transmit any of the following:
- Browsing history or URLs you visit
- Personal information (name, email, address, etc.)
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Cookies or tracking identifiers
- IP addresses or location data
- Keystroke or click data
- Any data to third-party servers
Data Stored Locally
CleanLinks stores the following data locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in storage APIs. This data never leaves your device:
- User preferences: Category toggle states, whitelist entries, and custom parameter rules (stored in chrome.storage.sync so they sync across your Chrome devices via your Google account).
- Statistics: Daily and total counts of tracking parameters removed (stored in chrome.storage.local).
- Pro license status: Whether you have purchased the Pro upgrade (stored in chrome.storage.local). Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe via ExtensionPay — we never see or store your payment details.
- Per-tab info: Temporary record of which parameters were stripped on each tab for display in the popup (stored in chrome.storage.session, cleared when Chrome closes).
Permissions
CleanLinks requests browser permissions solely to perform its core function of removing tracking parameters:
- declarativeNetRequest: Strips tracking parameters from URLs at the network level.
- storage: Saves your settings and stats locally.
- Host permissions (all URLs): Required to strip tracking parameters from any website you visit.
- webNavigation: Detects page navigation to update stats.
- contextMenus: Provides right-click "Copy clean URL" functionality.
- activeTab: Reads the current tab URL to show stripping results in the popup.
Third-Party Services
CleanLinks uses ExtensionPay (powered by Stripe) to process Pro upgrade payments. When you choose to upgrade:
- You are directed to a Stripe-hosted payment page.
- Payment information is handled entirely by Stripe.
- We do not receive, process, or store your credit card or payment details.
- ExtensionPay communicates only your payment status (paid/unpaid) back to the extension.
No other third-party services, analytics platforms, or remote servers are used.
No Remote Code
CleanLinks does not load or execute any remote code. All extension code is bundled locally in the extension package.
Children's Privacy
CleanLinks does not knowingly collect any data from children or any other users. The extension does not collect data from anyone.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy is updated, the changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Since CleanLinks does not collect user data, significant changes are unlikely.
